Prepare the relevant supporting documents.

Basic documents for claim assessment:

  1. Original Certificate/Policy of Insurance
  2. Original shipping invoices, packing lists, weight notes etc.
  3. Original Bill of Lading and/or other contract of carriage involved during the voyage
  4. Survey report, cargo exception list or other documentary evidence showing the extent of loss or damage at time of receipt
  5. Copy of Notice of Claim against carriers and/or other parties regarding their liability for the loss or damage.

  6. Correspondences exchanged with the carriers and other parties regarding their liability for the loss or damage

Submit your completed claim form and all relevant documents within 30 days of the accident to MSIG’s office address by post.

For export cargo

Contact our nominated survey/settling agent to conduct a cargo inspection/investigation. Our settling agent will notify and assist us in processing the claim case accordingly.

For import cargo

Once the cargo is discovered damage upon its arrival at Macau, please notify us about the cargo damage immediately and we shall then appoint a competent surveyor to conduct a cargo inspection.

Notes on claim procedure
1. Identify the cargo loss

Detail damage condition or exception on the cargo receipt and take remedial measures to prevent further loss or damage.

2. File notices to us immediately and file a written notice of claim against the forwarders or the carriers

2.1 Report the cargo damage or loss to MSIG Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited through EASY Claims or our designated survey agent (which stated in policy) to conduct cargo inspection immediately.

2.2 File a written notice of claim against the forwarders or the carriers to protect your rights of recovery as soon as damage or loss is discovered.

3. Gather claim documents along with supporting documents
Important notes
  1. If the loss is covered by the policy, the survey fee will be paid by us. Otherwise, the cargo owner will have to pay the survey fee.
  2. Incomplete claim forms cannot be accepted for processing of claims.
  3. We may contact you for further information.

  2. Attach copies of the following documents: 

    • Hong Kong Vehicle Registration Document (both sides) 
    • Driver’s HKID Card
    • Driving Licence
    • All relevant documents you have received concerning the claim

     

  3. Submit the completed claim form and above documents immediately after the accident/discovery through the online platform or by post to:

Sign Letter of Authorisation

Sign a Letter of Authorisation to enable us to obtain the driver's statement from the police.

3.

Inform relevant parties

If your car is under a hire purchase agreement, you must inform the hire purchase company about the accident.

For repairs
  1. Get a quotation from the vehicle repairer and submit it to us. No repair works can be commenced before receiving our prior approval. 
  2. We will appoint a loss surveyor to quantify the damage. 
  3. After the damage has been quantified and approved, we will instruct the repairer to commence the works. 
  4. After the repair is completed, you will have to sign a ‘Discharge Form’ and submit it to the repairer in order to collect the vehicle. 
Important notes
  1. A bad claim record may result in a higher premium at renewal.
  2. Incomplete Notice of Accident cannot be accepted for processing of claim.
